On Saturday night, having listened to the band for about 17 years narrowly missing shows of theirs at least four times, I finally saw They Might Be Giants perform. (They Might Have Been at The Iron Horse, in Northhampton. In fact they pretty definitely were.)

It's hard to describe the experience without using the word "awesome" several times. They give an awesome live show, and when they're performing just about every song gets a novel treatment, most of which completely rock out. They did a bunch of songs from their upcoming album, which were basically all awesome, but the anthemic song about Mesopotamians was probably my favorite. A couple got engaged during Birdhouse in Your Soul. They wrote a special song for the venue. They summoned up Emily Dickinson's spirit from the vasty deep.

What I'm trying to say is that the show was awesome.

I've seen TMBG 8 times in a variety of venues. They always give it their best and rock out with some of the most inventive covers, even of their own work.

My favorite memory was from back in 94(?) when they did maybe 5 college shows in one day. I saw 3 of them and was amazed that each set was different.

Did they do the radio dial trick where they bring up a radio and scan the dial until they find something and start a cover of it? They don't always and it's oe of my favorite gimmicks.

That sounds pretty awesome - clearly I'll have to see them a lot more. They didn't actually do any covers at this show...
