LJ rotes are fascinating things. The current quasi-purity one seems to tell me that no one else on LJ has been scuba diving.

There must be a couple of you out there, right? Maybe you're just not the purity taking sort.

I've never been scuba diving! *weeps*

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the lowest score I've seen so far, without bungie jumping, scuba diving, or autocross. Those are far more worth doing than many of the questions.

Although I'm not sure you're more pure for not having done them.

[identity profile] rufinia.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I've used scuba gear in a swimming pool... Maybe that counts for .5%?

But I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] new_man on this one... what the hell does scuba diving have to do with purity?

[identity profile] tamarinne.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been scuba diving. Does that make me unclean?

[identity profile] rufinia.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently.

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm shocked! I had heard you were pure as the driven snow, but I guess if you've been scuba diving we'll have to mark you down as 'vixen'.

[identity profile] plymouth.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Driving on snow tends to make it rather dirty, actually. I'm not sure where driven snow got such a reputation for purity.

Are you kidding? It's the gateway drug to babysitting!

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, babysitting is clearly on the path to the filthy deed of having a job.

I was allowed to try scuba once, at summer camp, but my counselor wasn't a warranted instructor, so basically each of us got 10 minutes to try it and that was it, back to snorkeling.
Some day....

I learned SCUBA in high school, but never got a license.

[identity profile] goldsquare.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The test didn't interest me.

I have a scuba certification. PADI, Open Water. Love it, miss it, can't wait to go again.

[identity profile] oakleaf-mirror.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been SCUBA diving, back in my undergrad days. Have a C card somewhere, but would want to take a refresher before I tried using it again. Then again, I'd want clear water to be worth the effort. The water in Narragansett Bay isn't anywhere near as clear as the water along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

Maybe they're all out diving.

Dude, I'm from Minnesota.

Like that's an excuse? You've got the lakes for it.

"Minnesota's Largest Scuba Diving School"

My old roommate at Michigan was a big scuba nut and used to go diving all over the Midwest.

I've been scuba diving!

(So, um, hi, who are you? I just noticed you on my friends-of list...)

[identity profile] goldenoak.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
NM, I got a clue and checked out your userpics.

*waves hi*

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
*waves back*

Yeah, I just ran across your journal, which conveniently has a more recognizable username than mine. Hi.

[identity profile] goldenoak.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy cow, are you one of those SCAdians who knew me back when I was using "Emma of Goldenoak" as my persona name, or is "goldenoak" recognizable in some other way?

The college of heralds laughed their asses off at me ... a really long time ago now.

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, then presumably you have a new name now? Yeah, that's the only one I remember you having.

My recollection is also that oak leaves were always like your personal symbol. Which your LJ icons seem to corroborate.

[identity profile] goldenoak.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically now it's "Emma Grey of Warwickshire", but for you I'll always answer to Goldenoak ;) I admit to being stunned and amazed that you remember the oak leaf thing.

As a random aside: did you know we have the same birthday?

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I just noticed that too. Weird, huh? We should have a conjoined party or something.

I always found it amusing that my half-birthday was celebrated so much more...

[identity profile] goldenoak.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The phrase "conjoined party" conjures up odd images, but if that's your thing, break out the duct tape!

I always thought it was cool that my birthday was situated at the exact right point in the year for even present distribution, and pitied the poor sods born in December who got shafted in the gift department. And I always got half a birthday cake on Christmas day! It's like the best birthday you could choose.

I never quite had the hubris to consider that everyone was celebrating my half-birthday with all the lights and songs and gifts though. I bow to your superior ego. :)

[identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You got a half cake for your half birthday? That's so cool.

(Yeah, hubris, definitely got too much of that.)

Hey, they have parades and fireworks on *my* birthday :-)
