I rolled over sometime in the middle of the night and thought distinctly "... somewhere between a large bathing machine and a very small second class carriage." And then I faded from that close approach to wakefulness.
Sometimes your subconscious hands you a snippet of a song lyric with some relevance to your current situation, though it might not be immediately obvious on a conscious level. In my case I later realized I was probably quoting The Nightmare Song because I was indeed tumbling and tossing, the sheet was slipping demurely from under me, and my slumbering was teaming with such horrible dreams that I had very much better have been waking.
Ah, subconscious me! Well spotted there, but not perhaps communicated in the most helpful way. Which I guess is typical of the subconscious. Surely it is the part of the mind most furnished with irony. And bathing machines.

Cool about quoting Iolanthe in the middle of the night. :-) (It's my favorite G&S operetta.)
