So, I promised more in-depth coverage of Mouseville, and I probably ought to catch up on what has happened in the week since as well.

Disney specifics:

Monday saw most of Epcot and ate at a decent but non-inspiring Norwegian place.
Tuesday went to MGM, probably the most full day of interesting stuff to do in Orlando, despite only having two real rides. Dinner at a faux drive-in theater was surprisingly good.
Wednesday we did Disney Quest, which merely by virtue of being a giant arcade was a large amount of fun. They had various VR things, etc., but I probably enjoyed most the time with pinball machines and classic 80s games (yay Asteroids, Frogger, and Jaust). Dinner at the fantastic "The Chefs de France" restaurant, which made me appreciate the combination of duck and cherry, among other things. (Nagging thought: presuming we ignore using "the" instead of "les", shouldn't it still be "du France", not "de France"?).
Thursday saw Animal Kingdom, in some ways the most fun park, but at most a half-day, so not as worthwhile as MGM by my reckoning. The safari was quite good, however. Dinner at a Moroccan place, made me want to find one locally.
Friday was Magic Kingdom, which I generally considered pretty boring. Space and Splash Mountains, however, have held up notably well. The former is possibly the best old-style wooden coster I've been on, and the latter is an extremely long and interesting log flume even today.
Saturday we got off the Disney compound and went over to Universal, which is in every way the Pepsi to Disney's Coke. It had 3.5 very good rides, but isn't on the whole worth the price of admission, with hour long lines and a nigh useless "Fast Pass". We also saw a very nice parade in the Magic Kingdom.
Sunday we didn't do much. Slept in, went to Quest again (yay internet access), had dinner at the excellent Alfredo restaurant, played a mediocre game of mini-golf, and packed.

General Disney thoughts:
My memories of the place were much smaller from when I was 3-7 and went there 4-5 times. My grandmother lived in the area, so it was a convenient visit. The fact that Magic Kingdom and Epcot were the only things there might have some effect on my perception of it now.
It's vaguely disturbing that on almost all Disney rides the passengers exit away from the entrance, giving the appearance of the ride consuming them. This is partly because Disney's strength lies in carefully crafted overall experience, so that before and after the rides you are still entertained. It's mostly because every ride has a souvenir shop, as do a few of the restaurants. While we were at MGM I found a Theramin to play with, and now I kind of want one.
The Disney transit system really needs to be revised, because a Byzantine bus network seems to fail in most important respects.
Oddly enough, although there were quite a few truly obnoxious people around Disney/Universal, every single person we had an actual conversation with was immensely friendly. Weird.

Nothing in particular happened Monday through Friday last week. I generally spun my wheels and tried to get some approximation of design work done.

Saturday was fun. It started out with a little setup for the Clash of the Ash and a little light drizzle. It proceeded through a bit of Hurling and a light rain and by midafternoon had reached watching Hurling from a (mostly) dry place during a heavy rain, followed by eating a fairly good feast while escaping the downpour. The day as a whole might have been quite disappointing, were it not for an extremely fun post revel afterwards, in some ways the best post revel I've been to.

Sunday was spent with [livejournal.com profile] tpau's family, and was fine except for being sore from the previous day.

Today featured important interviews for both [livejournal.com profile] tpau and me, which ultimately went quite well, I think. Also, I'm beginning to get a feel for the Viola I borrowed on Saturday. Quite a fun instrument, although perhaps not for the neighbors.

"shouldn't it still be "du France", not "de France"?)."

No. "du France" would be "of the France" and France doesn't take a "The."

Well, here is the link to get them. Not cheap, I'm afraid, although not terribly unusual as instrument prices go.

My friend Dr. Foo (aka Baron Algernon Hartesmond, aka Wor. Gary Dryfoos) has one and is fairly good at it; he's let me play around with it. I definitely want one of these toys someday...

When I was young my father had one he built from a kit, so it's not as if I'd never seen one before. I had just forgotten how much fun analog electronica can be. I'm not quite at the point of running out to pick up a Moog yet, but it is a tempting thought for the future.

:-P

I think I'm jealous, Sib. I can barely remember the last trip. Maybe in a couple of years...

It should be "de France" not "du France" as mentioned by [personal profile] msmemory because du would mean "of the" but also because France is feminine, so even if one wanted to say "of the France" it would be de la France (eg: via La France, not via Le France)
