Problem: sleeves of cotton garment are mottled with bloodstains.

Solution: apply bleach cleaning solution to sleeve.

Result: sleeve of garment turns purple.

I don't like the way this day is going...

Bloodstains come out really easily with peroxide and cold water - just pour peroxide on and rub it in until the spot fades almost completely, then rinse and rinse and rinse with cold water. Should still work, even after the bleach.

(Why yes, this is something I have to deal with on a daily basis... :) )

Actually, in this case the combination of bleach and detergent was more than enough to remove the bloodstains, but I'll keep that in mind. I'd much rather handle peroxide than bleach.

Can't you get stain-resistant scrubs, or something similar? It seems like a lot of work for so common an occurrence.
