a quick note
the Pops' version of the 1812 Overture this evening ran about four-and-a-half minutes
my recording runs 14:36, and i think of it as being on the zippy side
quite irksome

wow.... yuck ... wait a second-- I thought the pops and the fireworks were supposed to be on the _actual_ 4th? were they on the third instead? horrors!

Yeah, last night's 1812 wasn't. I had always been under the impression that the July 3rd concert was a rehearsal for the 4th, and that they played the same thing. Unless they've changed things for this year, perhaps not. They did what the announcer called the 1812 halfway through, last night, while it's usually the finalé before the fireworks on the 4th. What they played was just a section near the end. Maybe they figured it just wouldn't be the same (and it's not) without the real church bells and cannon. Odd, then, that they played the section that would normally include them. Perhaps they wanted to highlight what was missing without the extras?
