Well, I'm not sure it's fine everywhere, but I always take non-major routes to work, so the constrictions on major highways don't particularly affect me.
It's all feedback loops. So many people stayed off the roads due to the predictions of gloom and doom (due to telecommuting, or simply going on vacation) that it more than compensated for the messed-up situation.
Basically, they did a good enough job of scaring the hell out of everyone that pretty much everyone is working around the problem in some fashion. Which of course means that there's no problem...
My commute wasn't changed at all. The number of cars on the road didn't seem terribly different, possibly a few less cars. But my commute is extremely short (~5min), so I wasn't terribly surprised at the lack of change despite metahacker's prophesies of doom and gloom.
Heh. Or you actually won't be on 93 if I understand the road closure map correctly.
Listening to the traffic dudes on the way in around 9ish this morning the rush seems to have evaporated. There can't simply be that much excess capacity in the system so there must be fewer commuters.
Actually it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but still worse than usual (orange->green->green if anyone cares). Of course, normal is like 1.5 hours :(
