Nov. 17th, 2003 11:42 pmSo, yesterday a few of us ran The Final Voyage of the Mary Celeste at MIT. It's a really well-balanced game, and I was very happy with who we got cast as whom. Even the fill-in for the guy who didn't show up did a good job, although he seemed somewhat rushed because he obviously didn't have long to look over his character. Only one player wound up somewhat unhappy with the run, and that was largely for out-of-game reasons. The only major complaint was that we used Rules To Live By for the mechanics, that being the system for the published version of the game (and in fact the one of the two available which is less broken), and its combat resolution gets awkward quickly as battle size increases.
I'm not sure how effective the run was as a plug for Intercon D, in that the half of the game most likely to come is already signed up, but I am happy with it as a cross-promotion of LARP in general. But also it was a lot of fun just to run it, and having more LARPs happen is a Good Thing.
I was (semi-seriously) praised for some massively overacted NPCing, and
laura47 described my Assassins' Guild reputation as "some teenager who ran a game with [
perbac] and [
tibbetts]." Well, I guess that's not so bad on the whole.
