Ah, the joys of Arisia when one is newly unemployed...

Friday: [livejournal.com profile] metahacker and I meandered on over to the hotel around 4:30 and I got quickly tied up in consuite, my usual mode of volunteerism. A couple of hours there and the [livejournal.com profile] tpau and I were off to get formalweared for Celebration, the Friday night LARP. A fun game all around, although my character was one of the few not embroiled in The Big Plot. That wrapped up around midnight, and then it was back to consuite for the late night shift. On Friday night this is actually a great place to be, and I had a good time hanging out with random people as they wandered through.

Got about an hour and a half of sleep, between general insomnia and being woken up by bedmates (we wound up with six people in our room through offering space to as many as possible. Sharing is good). Did some extra morning work for consuite (notice a trend?) and headed to the Tom Smith concert. Never seen him live before, and, well, I think he gave a good concert but it was hard to tell sometimes with the rather irritating crowd drowning him out by singing along loudly. Muddled around for the rest of the afternoon, gave blood, rushed to the second half of [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite's very nifty forensics panel, eventually joined a mob to go seek food at the food court. Then it was off to the Masquerade, which was fairly good (and short), followed by movie trailers, which were fairly dull. The food mob went back out for dessert at the delicious but overpriced Finale, and went back to prepare for the evening's festivities. I found [livejournal.com profile] asdr83 waiting to get into our room hypothetically to sleep, and persuaded her that there were much better things to do on Saturday at Arisia. After picking up a likewise bored [livejournal.com profile] hfcougar, I started accumulating a few other people to go looking for trouble. We more or less found it: disinterested in what parties seemed to be going on, we went down to check out the dance. And it was not good. [livejournal.com profile] new_man et al were hanging around irritated by the atrociously bad DJ, so our two minimobs gradually accrued an increasing number of disappointed dancers, and waited to see how long it would take newcomers to realize it wasn't worth it. Then [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite and [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur realized they had the means to run a Guerilla 80s Dance Party, and we had a ready-made mob just waiting for such an opportunity. So we went, and we danced, and we were goofy and strange and had piles of fun... and two hours later the main dance admitted defeat to us, long after we had poached most of their dancers.

So then I put [livejournal.com profile] asdr83 and [livejournal.com profile] tpau to bed and went to run consuite alone, till 6, with generally speaking only some very disturbing people hanging around. That was the least fun I've had at an Arisia, I think.

Got about an hour's sleep before [livejournal.com profile] asdr83's alarm went off so she could go to work. Managed maybe another half hour total before giving up and starting to pack. Worked some more at consuite and went to the Intercon concom meeting. I don't usually mind concom, but I have decided that ending a con with a two hour business meeting is a Bad Thing. On the plus side [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite had an Angel viewing afterwards which was somewhat better closure for the weekend.

And then I collapsed. Three hours of sleep isn't much for an active weekend.

Spent most of yesterday working with [livejournal.com profile] tpau on her test dishes for the feast she's running in February. We made use of my parents' kitchen and taste buds to help this process, and by happy coincidence [livejournal.com profile] hfcougar's taste as well. (random: preparing all the parsnips for soup got Parsnips A-Plenty! stuck in my head.) Then I had to dash to Lear rehearsal, so it was moderately busy for a free day... Which is probably why it took until today for me to mentally crash from Arisia. Leaving a heavy social event is always a letdown for me, but the sudden lack of work and human interaction makes it that much worse. Ho hum.
