New Waveland Cafe
Nov. 7th, 2005 12:32 amHave arrived in Waveland, Mississippi. The hurricane damage is profound in places, but the town appears to be industriously going about its business, albeit with a major focus on reconstruction. The relief camp we have brought supplies to, and which we intend to work at through Thursday when we head to New Orleans, is seemingly thriving if a little excentric. Thriving both in that they have done a lot with what they have and in that their business is trailing off as they get people moving in the right directions and away from the camp. Eccentric in that they are a "pan galactic anarchist collective", which seems to revel in not knowing how it gets its job done. It's not exactly what we expected. We've only seen them hanging around after working, so it remains to be seen how they function when trying to do something cohesive.
