You could do what I do and assume that if something IS important, someone I know will send me a synopsis or pointer. I am confident that I've missed lots of important things on the EK list... I leave it as an exercise to the reader to list the most important three over the last four years. Let's use the idea of important as "it affects me, or knowing this I can improve the lives of others".
I have come to realize from copious examples just how much "I am not a prude" means "I am a prude".
But it's really the talk of dividing Pennsic into über-Enchanted Ground and a ghetto for everyone the posters secretly wished didn't exist that bothers me.
Not as of yet. There's a big flap over a woman who was wearing black leather! And fishnets! Think of the children!
Because, it's not the periodicity that bothers us (yes it is (no it isn't)), it's our modern sensibilities, and if my children saw some woman in such an obviously "alternative" outfit, well! I know that some people like to do Those Things, but we shouldn't ever have to see any evidence that they exist.
As far as I'm concerned, the lady in black leather and fishnets can come camp with us, where we will do our best to keep her from the innocent eyes of impressionable children.
If you think such an effort (to divide Pennsic) has a chance to succeed, perhaps it IS important. Concerning fashion... I am not (much of) a prude, and don't care if my children see people wearing fetish clothing (or even just walking around smeared with blue mud), but would prefer that it be fetish clothing (or blue mud patterns) styled from before 1600 if it's at Pennsic.
That would be a section of Pennsic which, like Enchanted Ground, would require everything and everybody within it to adhere to a higher standard of periodicity.
I actually agreed with the "prudes" until everyone went, oh, INSANE.
Fortunately people are pretty good about using proper subject lines, so the amount of sca-east digest emails I can delete without feeling I've missed something after just briefly glancing at the list of subjects is all of them.
Cool. I only know a couple of Ansteorrans, but they're nice. I did get to fight alongside Jason for a while in this year's woods battle, which was a lot of fun.

I've been EK-list free for, lessee...very nearly 10 years now, and have never regretted it. Well, once, but not enough to make me sign on.

I just unsubscribed, and I doubt I will have any serious regrets.
