... and first post from the new place. The move was not without its difficulties (stupid box springs that don't fit into actual houses. Unsure what I will do about that), but by and large went fairly smoothly, thanks to my expert gang of movenators. The promised hurricane did not disrupt us, and we managed to avoid all the crazed other movers running around this weekend.

Mostly, though, today is frabjous because I reached into a bag of duct tape and pulled out... my Leatherman! Yes, the Flair climbed back out of whatever unreachable ditch it had snuck off to at Pennsic and slipped into my car. It may have lapped playfully at my hand in its joy to return.

My queen sized box spring does not fit up the stairs. A "split box spring" will. But they cost the earth.

Except at Building 19, where they cost very little. Call the store of your choosing in advance, ask them when the box springs are coming in, and get one.

I don't know if you remember the move to Melrose, but [livejournal.com profile] chiefoperator had some choice words about box springs. IIRC, he unstapled the gauzy stuff on the bottom, partially disassembled the queen box spring, forced it up the stairs, and reassembled it in our bedroom. He then announced that when the time came for it to leave, he was hacking it to pieces and throwing it out the window into the back yard. The previous owners must have had a split box, but they had a bedskirt or something hiding that fact and didn't think to mention it to us. D'oh!

I ditched my (shattered, creaky, old) box spring and got a slat bed from Ikea for just over $100. It's way more comfy than the shattered box spring (more likely due to the shattered than the box spring, but there you go) and assembled pretty easily.

Congratulations! And how thoughtful of your Leatherman to welcome you to your new place in that manner. :)

Getting a bed that does not require a box spring is probably your best bet, or chop it in half. We have been sleeping on a European style flat bed for three years and I, as a child, had nothing else.

Good for you (about the Flair), but... damn, how selfish can you be? What about me and the half dozen other people who have purchased you replacement Leathermen ("Leathermans"? "Leathers men"?) and have been basking in their cleverness at how overjoyed you will be to receive anew this useful tool?

Ah well. If one is good, 5 is better. I'm sure you'll figure out something to do with them all. ;-)

ello !
