It's time again for my annual new year's resolution thing. I've seen a significant amount of change but across a lot of different parts of my life in 2006, but luckily a year ago I made my goals sufficiently broad that they are still meaningful. Let's see how I did:

  1. Be a nicer person
Tough to measure, and especially so to self-evaluate, but I think I've done a good job in some rather challenging circumstances. If you can think of any exceptions, let me know privately and I'll try to do better.

  2. Do solo performance
Did some, plan to do a lot more as scheduling allows.

  3. Be decisive
I don't know, maybe I did alright, but then again...

Well, ok, I actually think I did pretty well at not overthinking things that didn't matter. Failing to reanalyze big important decisions is just being foolhardy. Of course I could stand to do better, but really, all of these are things I could keep on my list for the future.

So, as I mentioned last year, I think I should have a bigger set of goals this year, so here're ten:

  1. Go to the gym (Stereotypical, I know, but it'll make [livejournal.com profile] metahacker happy)

  2. Compose a piece of music

  3. Learn a new language

  4. Win a tournament

  5. Go on an exciting trip

  6. Invent a game

  7. Save the world, a little (I did nothing in 2006 to come near Waveland)

  8. Make someone speechless with kindness

  9. Don't make anyone cry (I wish I didn't have to work at that)

  10. Teach something

In retrospect I think the first year's ten were pretty good; but hey, I gotta try new things.

also, as for saving the world a little: here. (http://caladri.livejournal.com/1205050.html) new orleans is still kind of broken. (much of her recent journal has chronicled a road trip there, from seattle, because she and her boyfriend wanted to do something for their first christmas together.)

There were certain things you did with me -- or, rather, didn't -- that weren't especially nice.

Dude, last night a frickin' video game made me cry. It happens. Tears can be a form of social lubricant as well, IME. Perhaps it'd be better to say "try to learn from my mistakes the first time 'round", not that that is any easier ;P.

There is good crying you know...:) A good list I would say, but I try not to make lists.

Did you compose the music yet? If so (or if not), what type? I'm curious, as music composition is something dear to my heart, whether or not I practice it anymore.

I have not - I'm rather behind overall on these, in fact. Sadly, while I wish I could unfold and engaging masterplan for that one, it was an entirely abstract goal, and I had been thinking somewhere between minimalist concerto and punk rock anthem...
