(no subject)
Feb. 10th, 2004 05:30 pmLast night the noble and true-hearted Kent pointed out that I Am The Walrus ends with lines from IV.6 of King Lear in which Oswald meets his "untimely death."
On Sunday our troupe watched quite possibly the worst film version of King Lear. It looks like it's been done by Ingmar Bergman... if his cameraman were falling asleep from the languorous acting, so that many shots miss the subject. Although most film versions are not so bad, I notice that, for instance, the James Earl Jones version and the Ian Holm version suffer, as this one does, from seriously downplaying the veins of dark humor that run throughout the play. It's a tragedy, but a well-rounded one, which most people seem to somehow forget.
And that's why everyone should come and see our version, which will be much better.
[edit: I forgot, this movie also features a Continuity Girl in the credits. As far we can tell her job was to make sure there wasn't any...]
