Dec. 16th, 2008 07:09 amI rolled over sometime in the middle of the night and thought distinctly "... somewhere between a large bathing machine and a very small second class carriage." And then I faded from that close approach to wakefulness.
Sometimes your subconscious hands you a snippet of a song lyric with some relevance to your current situation, though it might not be immediately obvious on a conscious level. In my case I later realized I was probably quoting The Nightmare Song because I was indeed tumbling and tossing, the sheet was slipping demurely from under me, and my slumbering was teaming with such horrible dreams that I had very much better have been waking.
Ah, subconscious me! Well spotted there, but not perhaps communicated in the most helpful way. Which I guess is typical of the subconscious. Surely it is the part of the mind most furnished with irony. And bathing machines.
