Whoops

So, at the moment if I search for anything at all on Google, all the results are marked "This site may harm your computer", and can only be accessed by editing the address bar directly.

It seems to be not localized to me. So, did someone at Google really really screw up their safety metrics this morning?

[ETA: Now fixed. Major screw-up on Google's part. CNET is covering it, and include the possibility that the malware tracker they relied on went down. Which implies a very poor design on Google's part...]

It's not just you. I just searched for "The Prisoner of Zenda" a harmless early 20th Century novel and even the Wikipedia page was so marked.

I've warned for years about letting Google become a monopoly. This is obviously a screw up, but suppose they decide (or are ordered as in China) to block sites, then what?

The link to the explanation site is broken as well, so you can't even find out what their filters choked on.

It seems to only be the first page of search results... really odd.

And now it seems to be fixed.

Well, I suppose it could have been worse. The malware tracker might have broken down in the other direction, failing to block the viruses.

Well, I guess, but then we'd just have the behavior of Google up until the past year or so, when they started tracking those sites.
