Up too late. Just finished watching The Godfather for the first time. Interesting movie, although I found myself comparing it quite a bit to The Untouchables. Even placing the setting aside, the central motif of falling into corruption is remarkably similar... and I happen to think The Untouchables is one of the best dramas ever put to screen. Nonetheless, I can see the reasoning by which so many rate Godfather as the Greatest Movie Ever. Hmm, time for sleep now, I think.

Have you seen Godfather Part II yet?

It really can't compare to part I, but it's important for completeness, and has its moments. If roughly 2 1/2 hours of the first one's 178 minutes are great, then roughly 1 1/2 hours of part II's 200 minutes are great...

"Leave the gun. Take the canolli."

Have not seen it yet, no. Tivo recorded both, but then deleted the second before I got to it.

The thing about that quote is that I'd heard it before, and always thought it was some kind of commentary about familial and/or culinary concerns being the more pressing than the call to violence. But no, it just means "the gun is evidence, but we need those canolli for later." Still not a bad line, just a totally different emphasis than I expected.
