This weekend was amazingly tiring and amazingly fun.

Friday night I got painted up green and scarred for Barad-wath, which I thought would be fairly amusing and turned out to be a lot of fun. It wasn't the perfect game, and I understand that the lower echelon players had a much higher rate of boredom, but I was lucky and everyone I interacted with was deeply embroiled in epic politicking. This was an extremely bloodthirsty game, as it should have been, and by the end [livejournal.com profile] prince0dc were just about the sole survivors guarding each others' backs.

After that I should have gone to sleep, but I was keyed up and still a bit stressed about GMing the next morning so I hung around schmoozing in the consuite and watching Ops for another few hours before being tired enough to crash.

My worries were happily assuaged, as Multiplied Loyalties went off quite well, and everyone seemed to have fun.

After that I donned my (not quite correct for my character but decently close, and object of medium awe) costume and enormous hat for The School for Young Women Specializing in the Arts of Grace and Maidenly Submission. 2PM-12AM with a one hour dinner break (timed an hour too early, so the consuite didn't get most food set up until we had to go back to game). Everyone who played in it last year had told me that this was worth missing all of Saturday's other games for. Well, perhaps it depends who you play. There was some very good writing in the game, and some exceptional roleplaying (I had a lot of fun playing off [livejournal.com profile] prince0dc's enthusiatic viking in particular), but our run at least failed to reach any real cohesion. There was perhaps too much writing; even given the length so many obscure details buried in extremely long character sheets were critical to other characters' plots in unexpected ways that I think the majority of players were at sea much of the time. [livejournal.com profile] londo, [livejournal.com profile] shogunhb, and I especially were playing three characters whose plots were deeply but reconditely intertwined, and I was the only one of us three who spent almost all the time in game instead of wandering off bored intermittently. I think more GM manipulation of events might have helped balance the game, as by two hours or so before wrap-up more than half the game was just waiting for the remaining plots that were going anywhere to resolve themselves. These issues disappoint me because I the game really drew me in, and it was very close to being a lot of fun.

After that I was thoroughly twired. I hung out in consuite some more then, first concocting many evil LARP plans with [livejournal.com profile] londo and later having a long and very interesting conversation with [livejournal.com profile] drdt about games in general and mechanics in particular. I was still not quite ready to sleep then, so I took over watching Ops from [livejournal.com profile] laurion and wandered in and out of the dance party with [livejournal.com profile] juldea, [livejournal.com profile] rigel, and [livejournal.com profile] laura47. Much sleep-deprived fun was had, and I eventually crashed around 4:30.

Sunday I tossed on my mighty fruitful crown to play King Ayummayumma in The League of Extraordinary Breakfast Cereals.(He's from Ralston's Fruit Islands cereal, and no, I'd never heard of him either. I am now however well-versed in his ability to make your tumma go yumma.) It was a resource management game using Rules to Live By, but was still light and fluffy enough to make a very enjoyable Sunday morning game.

I missed closing ceremonies and shameless plugs (someone had to watch Ops), but I heard they were quite funny. Then I had to rush off, missing the dead dog, because I had six or so hours of tech rehearsal for Lear to do. Didn't make it home till after midnight, and the run was fairly messy, but it was still an excellent weekend.

To say that I wandered off bored is unfair. I wandered off miserable.

*I* wandered off bored... but I tried to be available periodically in case anyone wanted to kill me. (Or otherwise needed me to fulfil a plot goal).

When you're given a character whose main motivation is to not be killed, it's hard not to justify having the character walk (or sail) away. Especially when it's written into your character that "The last time you were in this situation, you just buggered off!"

And then there's your character... who was basically meat. Why even cast that role?

To clarify, I have no problem with your decision as a player. If it's in character to leave and you are out of character bored, you should just tell the GMs you're gone in my book.

I just didn't want to completely bone whoever was looking for me. Mostly bone, sure, but not completely.

enormous hat

your hat made my very very happy.

Almost as happy as [livejournal.com profile] volkmeter's costume.

my mighty fruitful crown to play King Ayummayumma

That hat filled me with joy. I would have been there if i hadn't been up till 6:30

closing ceremonies and plugs were fun. I made a killing on the raffle prizes.

Thanks again for watching Ops during closing ceremonies. I hope it was quiet and restful.

Yeah, there was some very funny translation schtick going on in that run.

I would have liked to have interacted with you more during the game; I don't really know anything about what your plot was.
