I just finished the last episode of Cowboy Bebop. Very fitting conclusion, but totally hardcore blues. Reminded me again how stunningly good the show is; I was specifically surprised by some of the subtler symbolism, e.g. blood running into the eye.

A while back I was thinking that although I had seen a lot of entertaining anime, very little of it struck me as good art (in the broad sense, although the drawing of much of it was middling as well). Maybe Evangelion (though I should finish it now that I have the box set), maybe Ghost in the Shell. Now I would say definitely Bebop.

Where does Miyazaki fall, in your opinion?

My opinion of Miyazaki varies. I've only seen Mononoke and Spirited Away, though I have the DVD of Castle in the Sky around here somewhere. I usually think of his work as very good filmmaking, but not necessarily Art. Might have to watch Mononoke again before I can really come to a conclusion, though.

Ah, congratulations...

You gotten around to watching the best anime series ever... The cowboy bebop movie is not so bad by the way, so consider watching it... basically much like a long (slightly above average) episode...

Oh, yeah, the movie. I forgot there was still unconsumed CB content out there for me. I'm curious where it fits in the continuity, though...

Absolutely, yes it does. I believe it is meant to fit
somewhere between 22 and 23? or is it 21 and 22?

I've even read claims that it was that story that accounts for the change in Spike's attitude... would have to rewatch the episode to see if there is an observable change in his attitude on the last DVD... hm...
