My company just had 50% layoffs, including me.

Ouch. Sorry. At least there is some comfort in the fact that it wasn't personal.

That totally blows. Bastards.

Ummm...Merry Christmas? Who the heck do you work for? Does their name start with a SCR and end with OOGE?

That's the suck.

Man, that bites. You have my sympathy. Like [livejournal.com profile] dsrtao said, at least it isn't personal--not that it doesn't feel that way.

Mainly middleware programming, especially in Java. I will post a link to my updated resume in a few minutes.

I've had a slowish time getting my next job, but the job market itself is looking better than it's been any time in the last three years. Get your resume and profile up on HotJobs and Monster. They'll be calling you soon.

Suck!

All I can say is...that recruiter seems to have worked pretty well last time? Perhaps this time they can find you a company that makes money, too?

Date: 2005-12-20 09:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] learnedax.livejournal.com
There's a stinging sensation as I contemplate the recruiter who called me a month ago about a company that "has a license to print money." I told him I would rather stay in my secure position.

Call her at once! Perfectly possible that one hasn't been filled.

From: [identity profile] rickthefightguy.livejournal.com
Hmm. I knew a girl who worked for that company (the Federal Reserve Bank):-) A 'license to print money'.... that's a great turn of phrase.

Anyway, dude, that just sucks the suck right out of suck.

Wow. That stinks royally.

I wonder what moron decided it'd be a good idea to have the fiscal year end right around the winter holidays. Sure, let's make sure there's a round of firing right when folks are supposed to be enjoying themselves and are looking forward to high heating bills! That'd be great!

That sucks, but it could be worse.. They could have had 50% layoffs and only fired your left half.. Because then you'd have to look for work, and noone wants to hire someone who's only going to do a half-assed job

Date: 2005-12-20 09:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tamarinne.livejournal.com
Oh man, I'm sorry.

Although I guess on the (sort of) bright side, you're not one of the other 50% who now has to do the work of two...

Ouch. That's awful news at any time, but especially at this time of year. Damn puppy-kickers, laying people off the week of Christmas. Grr!

I hope you find a new job soon!

I am very sorry to hear that and find their timing to be less than well thought out. The same thing happened to me years ago and it is not a fun thing. Still use your holiday parties to network and remember that job postings tend to pick up in the new year. Good luck and may you find a more stable company.

Send me a resume NOW. We're currently interviewing for a junior-to-mid engineer, and you're certainly head-and-shoulders better than the guy I interviewed this morning. I'd like to bring you in as soon as we can make it work, possibly this week (since everyone's going to be away next week)...
