Spent about two hours this morning cleansing [livejournal.com profile] tpau's computer of a couple bits of malware, added to her hour+ last night. About 300 bits, actually. Needed three different virus-scrapers, a lot of websearching, and some incidental registry hacking. Clearly virii have been domesticated for business purposes all too effectively. Of course spyware is well-known, but I hadn't noticed how incredibly locustlike it had become of late. Please to be stop using Microsoft now.

The number "8000 new viruses this month" floated past my sphere of perception yesterday. Running Windoze is now officially like having lots and lots of sex with no condoms. In South Africa. Without the pleasurable side effects.

BTW, if you/she isn't on all the lists of where to get the latest updates to combat worms, viri, etc., odds are it's likely your machine will be hacked and zombied to dish out spam in the near future (though hiding behind your ISP does provide some protection from such attacks). I defer to [livejournal.com profile] sml or someone such here, since my Winblows knowledge is exceptionally minimal.

we are not on any such lsits, msotly since i have never heard of htem. if you knwo of any, pass it on. being behind a router firewall and a isp firewall helps. having norton conencted to outlook helps. none of hte things he or i deleted were viri, jsut ads. they were annoying but not detremental to my machineor others...
